[2R,3S,(-)]-2-Decyl-3-(5-methylhexyl)oxirane is a component of the sex pheromone of the female gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar). This compound, often referred to as disparlure, is widely used as a monitoring tool in traps to detect and track gypsy moth populations, a major pest of hardwood trees in North America and Europe.
