Embrapa Acre and the Universidade Federal do Acre recorded Caliothrips phaseoli associated with soybean cultivation in Acre state, Brazil, for the first time. The finding came from an agricultural area in Rio Branco during the 2024/2025 growing season. Embrapa published the account on August 19, 2026, describing the insect by the Portuguese common names “tripes-da-soja” and “tripes-do-feijoeiro.”

Embrapa Arroz e Feijão reported on August 18, 2026, that two rice materials stood out for resistance to the rice leafhopper Tagosodes orizicolus, also known as sogata or, in Portuguese, cigarrinha-do-arroz. The cultivar BRS A705 and genotype BGA 6914 were the most resistant materials identified in the research described by Embrapa.

EPPO's July 2026 Reporting Service recorded the first report of emerald ash borer, Agrilus planipennis, in Slovakia. The detection was based on adult insects caught in a pheromone funnel trap in Eastern Slovakia. According to EPPO Reporting Service article 2026/163, 18 adult specimens of A. planipennis were caught on June 25, 2026. The trap was installed on an ash tree in the park next to the manor-house of Streda nad Bordogom, in the Trebisov district of the Kosice region.
