insect
Latin Name Spodoptera exigua
Common Name Beet armyworm
Biology Adults are nocturnal and sensitive to black light traps and sex pheromones. Larvae have 5-6 instars: young larvae cluster on the undersides of leaves to feed and are translucent, while older larvae disperse to cause damage, chewing large holes in leaves and even damaging fruits. This pest is heat-tolerant, severely occurs in summer, and exhibits thanatosis (feigning death behavior).
Damage This pest damages various vegetables and crops such as beets, Chinese cabbage, tomatoes, and peppers.
Distribution Regions Temperate regions worldwide
Monitoring Pheromone lures mimic natural sex pheromones to attract male insects into specialized traps for population monitoring and suppression. As a core IPM component, monitoring enables early risk detection and targeted control. Mass trapping reduces mating opportunities to curb offspring populations. Protocols: ●Use only with matched traps. ●15-45 traps/hectare,replace/replenish every 4-6 weeks. ●Wear gloves or wash hands with detergent when switching lure types. ●Refer to trap-specific hanging instructions.
Recommended Traps Delta Trap, Wing Trap
